Now accepting submissions for the Storyblogging Carnival
Old Post: Not sure what Storyblogging is? I point out a few examples in the post below.

Enough people have indicated interest that I've decided to go ahead with the Storyblogging Carnival. If you've published a story on your blog and want it to be part of the Carnival, please e-mail me at dscrank-at-alum.mit.edu (or post in my comments), including the following information:

Name of your blog
URL of your blog
Title of the story
URL for the blog entry where the story is posted
A word count
A suggested rating for adult content (G, PG, PG-13, R)
A short blurb describing the story

Since this is the first time, we're going to keep the rules fairly open-ended. The post may be of any age, from a week old to years old. Unlike most blog posts, stories age well. I will be posting a maximum of twenty stories, on a first-come, first-serve basis. The submission deadline is 11:59 PM Eastern time on Friday, September 10th. (Update: Deadline extended to Sunday at 11:59 PM Eastern time.) The above is specific for the first run, and some of it may change in future Carnivals. The following rules will most likely be applicable to every carnival:

1. The story or excerpt submitted must be posted on-line as a blog entry, and it must be a work of fiction, although it may otherwise be of any genre.

2. The story can be any length, but the Carnival will list them in order of length, from shortest to longest, and include a word count for each one.

3. You may either send a complete story, a story in progress, or a lengthy excerpt. By lengthy excerpt, I mean that it should be a significant portion of the story, at least 10% of the whole thing. You should indicate the word count for both the excerpt and the complete story in the submission, and you should say how the reader can find more of the story in the post itself.

4. If the story spans multiple posts, each post should contain a link to the beginning of the story, and a link to the next post. You should submit the first post to the Carnival.

5. The host has sole discretion to decide whether the story will be included or not, or whether to indicate that the story has pornographic or graphically violent content. The ratings for the story will be decided by the host. I expect I'll be pretty lenient on that sort of thing, but I have some limits, and others may draw the line elsewhere. Aside from noting potentially offensive content, while I may say nice things about stories I like, I won't be panning anyone's work. I expect future hosts to be similarly polite.

6. The story may be the blogger's own or posted with permission, but if it is not his own work he should gain permission from the author before submitting to the Carnival.

Thanks, and if anyone wants to host future Carnivals, please let me know. I expect this will be more of a bi-weekly or even monthly Carnival, rather than a weekly one.

Update: Since I'm not planning to put up the Carnival until Monday, I'm being lenient on the deadline. I can't make promises, but if you get something to me before Monday, I'll try to include it.

Update: Deadline is officially extended to Sunday night, 11:59 PM EDT.

Update: I've updated the rules a bit, for future Carnivals.

ummm....Donald. I just started a new Everyday and I do not have time to do all of this. I can email you stories if you want them, but I am not word counting or blurbing right now. I am pretty busy--if you cannot do it simpiler, I understand and time will slow down for me at some point and I will get back to you again.

Hi Queenie,

A wordcount is easy to do if you have the proper software. Point me to the story and I'll do it for you. As for the blurb--it doesn't have to be fancy, but I'd like to include something from the author to introduce the story. A one sentence description would do. It helps to avoid spoilers and editorializing on my part.

Thanks,

Donald

Hi there.
I found the link to your site on Fringe Blog. I was reviewing his site for the Weblog Review.
I hope I'm not too late to submit a story!
What a fun idea.
I am going to check out your site, but wanted to post this right now.

Sometimes people pass up their opportunity for that 15 minutes of fame, and go quietly about their remarkable existence. Chloe Tuttle was just such a person.

Hope that covers it!
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Now I have some surfing to do on your site!

Just ran across this today and it seems rather interesting; one of the things I dabble in is short stories. Is there another carnival due up anytime soon?

Thinking about carnivals gets me to wondering: has anybody ever done a poetry carnival? If not, someone should. I think I'd get in on that if it happened.
